Gavin Williams

Gavin Williams passed A.R.C.O. while still at school, and in 1961 went to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied piano (with Frank Britton), organ (with C.H. Trevor) and composition. During the next two years he passed F.R.C.O., A.R.C.M. (Piano) and L.R.A.M. (Organ); in 1964 he was awarded a 1st class (Honours) in G.R.S.M. Also in 1964 he won the Organ Scholarship to Pembroke College, Oxford, but declined the award, preferring to do an orchestral conducting course with Maurice Miles.

1n 1965 Gavin Williams was appointed Sub-organist at Guildford Cathedral where he made over a dozen records with the cathedral choir under its director, Barry Rose. Barry Rose and Gavin Williams were awarded Gold records for their production of "Carols from Guildford" and Stainer's "Crucifixion". In 1972 Gavin Williams was appointed Director of Music at King's School, Rochester and retired from the post in 2005.

Gavin has continued to play the organ and piano regularly and is now Chorus Master of Rochester Choral Society, under it's Musical Director, Roger Sayer.
